STEPS to engineering

The STEPS to engineering programme encourages primary and post-primary students to explore the world of engineering and science, and promotes engineering as a career choice.
PLEASE NOTE: We are currently redeveloping our website and will launch a brand new and improved Steps.ie later in 2010.

Our goals are

  • Encourage a positive attitude towards careers in engineering, mathematics, science and technology.
  • Promote a greater understanding of the role and contribution of engineering in society and how engineering is relevant to our everyday lives
  • Raise awareness amongst students about engineering as a career choice
  • Highlight the advantages, diversity, opportunities and excellent rewards offered by a career in engineering
  • Introduce students to science and show them how it links with engineering

About the programme

Engineers Ireland created STEPS to engineering in 2000, and by engaging with children’s natural curiosity for science and technology, we have grown it into a nationwide progamme reaching approximately 65-75,000 children per year.

It is our flagship engineering outreach programme and aims to inspire primary and post-primary students with an interest in the world of engineering.

Our broad range of activities draws a wide and varied audience, including:

  • Primary/Post-primary students
  • Parents and families
  • Teachers and related educational organisations
  • 3rd level students
