Course aim

The course addresses the completely different drafting of the four main contracts in the construction phase of the work. This is a practical course that emphasizes those areas that give most problems to the contract administrator – additional payments, time programme and delay.

Overview

The public works contract was published on 19th February, 2007 for use on all public works. This constitutes a large section of the construction market and this new contract involves a step change in approach. The course addresses the completely different drafting of the four main contracts in the construction phase of the work. Obligations, risks and administration will be central to the course.  Case studies are used to illustrate contract interpretation.

Employers, the employer’s representative and the contractor incl. safety subcontractors and specialists - all those employed in key roles in the execution of construction work from either contracting party.

Trainer's profile

James Golden, BEng LLB CEng FICE MCIArb FInstCES MRICS

James is a barrister, chartered engineer and surveyor. He is widely experienced in all aspects of construction claims and dispute resolution. Always commercially minded, he has a reputation of grasping the key issues quickly and thoroughly with the ability to explain them to decision makers and clients alike.

James’ experience includes advocating for clients and acting as an expert witness. He regularly acts as contract administrator and/or project manager and also acts as an examiner of the institution of civil engineers.
